November had it all!
Start of the triathlon season, end of the university year, a bout of COVID, 2 half distance races, and a trip to Canberra!
My November began with a positive COVID test, not the ideal beginning to the month but an inevitable part of life. My first race of the season, Melbourne 70.3 was fast approaching on the 12th of November, along with my university exams wrapping up on the 14th.
A week out from Melbourne I wanted to put all my focus on the race but couldn’t really afford to do this as I had all but one of my university exams that week, along with still trying to recover from COVID. I kept the body ticking over, but missed a few final quality sessions, I barely spared a thought on the race until the actual race day as I was too focused on everything from uni.
When race day rolled around, I was excited to kick off the season and wanted to see where I stood after a winter of training. The race went well I learnt some lessons on the bike, my first-time racing on the TT, and was able to put together a run I’ve always known I was capable of. Having the support of my club was amazing, the atmosphere was insane and brought the entire day to another level!
Post race I had little time to celebrate, that night I was back on the textbooks preparing for my final exam on the 14th. I completed that last exam on the Tuesday after the race which means no more Uni until next year which lifts a massive weight off my shoulders.
The rest of that week and the start of the next involved work shifts and recovery sessions as I focused on relieving a tight hamstring had from Melbourne. Before I knew it the 24th of November was upon us and we packed the car and road tripped to Canberra for the inaugural Challenge Canberra on the 26th.
Personally, I don’t think my race was quite as good as Melbourne, but I was still happy with the race I put together and was able to take overall age group title. The course was challenging but I liked that about it. We drove back the day after the race and the rest of November was wrapped up with more shifts at work.
