December & January recap

wallaceskye

December was a more relaxed month, allowing me to embrace the festive season with family and friends. I competed in one race during the 2XU Triathlon Series, where I finished 2nd in the elite category. Despite a strong performance on the bike, I lacked the speed work in my legs to catch the leader.

Outside of racing, I had a blast at the 'ON Track Night,' which provided an incredible opportunity to see some of Australia’s top runners up close. With friends visiting from overseas, we spent a day exploring Melbourne and indulging in ice cream by the beach. I also enjoyed open water swims in the local lake and spent quality time with friends at various Christmas celebrations.

I spent some time cat-sitting near the city, which gave me a chance to explore new training spots. The year ended on a high note with a trip to Safety Beach, where I watched the New Year's fireworks light up the coast—a truly spectacular sight.

As January rolled in, I kicked off the new year with a mini-training camp organized by the Momentum Squad. This preparation led to my first race of the year, another 2XU event where I once again finished 2nd. It was a special treat to have my coach, Michael, visiting from Switzerland, allowing us to catch up in person.

The remainder of January was spent enjoying the summer weather and preparing for my next half-distance race. I also maximized my work hours before diving back into university studies, balancing training with academic commitments.
